Mystery Quilt

Mystery Quilt #2
Finished Size 53.17 by 68.73 inches
I swear, that’s what the computer says.
I got an EQ7 program for my birthday. This is all experimental!

This quilt calls for 18 simple blocks. I am excited because in uses a unit that I made for my daughter’s wedding quilt 13 years ago but had neglected to use.

Fabrics: You have lots of choices for your 18 Blocks
1. Search your stash for small to medium prints or tone on tones. No single finished piece will be greater than 3 inches square except for the background so I would avoid large prints, the designs would get lost.

We will use nine 10x20 inch or 9 fat quarters if you need to purchase fabric.. focus fabrics.

2. Now choose a background that is tone on tone or small print, very light or very dark that really shows against the focus fabric. The computer says you will need 3 1/4 yards. I think I will get 4 yards because the computer does not give me a layout plan and I am winging it. (I would hate to lead you astray and have you come up short fabric. Like you, I have not made this quilt!) Do not choose fabrics with a stripe or one way design.

3. You’ll have an option to add one more piece at a later time. It is a very small tid-bit. Okay, it’s a mystery quilt. I’ll provide more info in time.

4. 1/2 yard that contrast with both focus fabric and the background for Four Patches

5. The computer says a minimum 1 yard for the border. That means you will have to piece it. If you look at the overall quilt dimensions, you will see that you would need at least 70 inches to cut a mitered border without piecing. It’s your choice and depends on what you have stashed away or are willing to purchase. If you feel the necessity to purchase something, I recommend waiting till the end so you have the top in hand at the fabric store.
